DALLAS STARS RECALL MIKE SMITH FROM IOWA ON EMERGENCY CONDITIONS
Marty Turco Out Tonight vs. Atlanta With Lower Body Injury
FRISCO, Tex. -- Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has recalled goaltender Mike Smith from the Iowa Stars, the Stars' primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL), under emergency conditions. Marty Turco is out of tonight's game against Atlanta (7:30 p.m., FSN, WBAP 820 AM) with a lower body injury, with which he is day-to-day.

Smith, 23, has appeared in 21 games with the Iowa Stars this season, posting a 9-11-1 record with two shutouts, a 2.44 goals-against-average and a .918 save percentage. Among AHL goaltending leaders, the native of Kingston, Ont., ranks tied for sixth in shutouts, tied for seventh in save percentage, eighth in goals-against-average.

The 6-3, 211-pound goaltender was Dallas' fifth round selection (161st overall) by Dallas in the 2001 Entry Draft. With the AHL Houston Aeros in 2004-05, Smith posted a 19-17-3 record with a 2.42 goals-against-average and a .915 save percentage with five shutouts.

DALLAS STARS RECALL LEFT WING MATHIAS TJARNQVIST FROM IOWA
FRISCO, Tex. -- Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has recalled left wing Mathias Tjarnqvist from the Iowa Stars, Dallas' primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Tjarnqvist, 26, has appeared in 26 games for Dallas this season, tallying two goals and four assists for six points with a +8 rating. The native of Umea, Sweden, has also skated in 34 games for the Iowa Stars, posting 17 goals and 12 assists for 29 points to go along with five power play goals and three game-winners.

The 6-2, 196-lb. left wing missed the Stars' first nine games of the 2005-06 season with an ankle sprain. Over 44 career NHL contests, Tjarnqvist has tallied three goals and five assists for eight points with 14 penalty minutes.

Tjarnqvist, Dallas' third round selection (No. 96 overall) in the 2000 Entry Draft, spent the 2004-05 season in his native Sweden, posting eight goals and nine assists for 17 points in 46 games for HV 71 Jonkoping.

The Stars are currently 45-20-3 and sit atop the NHL's Pacific Division with 93 points. The club will next play on Wednesday, March 22 at 7:30 p.m. (FSN, WBAP 820 AM) against the Minnesota Wild at American Airlines Center.
